DemineCambodia is a group of individuals and Cambodian non-government organizations (NGOs) working together. By sharing talent and resources, we hope to bring new ideas, tools and personnel to help experienced deminers rid Cambodia of landmines.
"Empowering Cambodians to prevent tragedy"
Innovation, Compassion, Teamwork
My first humanitarian trip to Cambodia in 2001 put me face to face with the ravage that abandoned landmines inflict on a post war society, I had to do something. Returning in 2004, I learned as much as possible about demining methods while supporting a landmine survivors group, Angkor Association for the Disabled (AAD). www.angkorad.org AAD's director and founder is Sem Sovantha, a former captain in the Cambodian army who lost both legs to a Khmer Rouge landmine in 1990.
DemineCambodia believes that developing a more efficient and less expensive demining method will enable Cambodians to regain agricultural land quicker than current methods. Once an area is demined, farmers can produce much needed food without the constant fear of landmines taking their limbs or their life.
